A Louisiana Frog in D.C.

TCU freshman Stephanie Toups '16 represented the state of Louisiana at the Mystic Krewe of Louisianians Washington Mardi Gras Ball in February. It's known to be among the largest parties in the nation's capital.

A princess for the ball, Toups combined her love of the Horned Frogs and native state to make a fashion statement.

"She walked out in her gown in front of 3,000 politicians and corporate representatives in purple high heels with the words 'GEAUX FROGS' bejeweled on the tops," her father Stephen wrote.

Frog Fountain money shot

Previously, we told you about Fort Worth-area attorney Barrett Campbell '07, who has quite an eye for photography. He occasionally comes to campus to shoot TCU landmarks.

One long-sought shot was of Frog Fountain at dusk with its purple lights glowing. Campbell had missed it a few times before.

Not anymore.

Campbell shared this image with us from early March, and we must say that Frog Fountain looks as majestic as it ever has. The lighted Campus Commons is gorgeous as well.

Remembering Van Cliburn

Craig Libby '65, of Sedona, Ariz., shared this photo of him and piano legend Van Cliburn this week upon learning of the Fort Worth icon's death this week.

"As a sophomore Radio-TV-Film major in 1962, I had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Cliburn on the campus radio station KTCU," Libby wrote.

During breaks in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition held in Ed Landreth Auditorium, Cliburn would steal away from the crowds and make frequent visits to the KTCU studios, then located in the basement of Ed Landreth Hall.

"His visits, although short in duration, were always interesting, welcomed and enjoyed by the small group of students running the station," Libby shared. "It was a honor and privilege to have met this outstanding and talented man during my early years at TCU and to this day enjoying the music he has left the world."

Campus Commons at dusk

Barrett Campbell '07 picked up photography as a hobby a few years ago, and one of his favorite places to shoot is TCU.

"The campus and new stadium are absolutely incredible," he shared. "A lot of the renovations at TCU took place my junior and senior year so I always wished I would have been able to enjoy the state of the art campus that the students enjoy now."

Campbell, who earned a degree in finance and works as an attorney for a real estate development company in the mid-cities, originally wanted to photograph Frog Fountain in the photo above, but the purple lights were off.

He also captured some images of Amon G. Carter Stadium with an incredible gray-cloud sky. See below.
