Four Day Weekend welcomes SuperFrog on Purple Friday

Now that the TCU football season is mere hours away, Go Purple Fridays are back. Celebrating today are the guys at Four Day Weekend, the improv comedy venue in Sundance Square.

TCU alumna Jessica Edwards '03 sent this photo to us of SuperFrog visiting some of the cast members, including (from left) Frank Ford, Grayson Howe '09, David Wilk and Ray Sharp.

"It was a
special treat for us when SuperFrog visited our theater," wrote Edwards, the marketing and sales director of the Fort Worth outfit. " Thanks for a fun start to the 2013 season!"

Four Day Weekend, which began in Fort Worth in 1997 at Casa Manana Theatre, was the winner of the 2012 Texas Star Award for "Best Entertainment" and named winner of "Best Entertainment Experience in Texas 2013."

Flashing the Frog sign at Machu Picchu

Earlier this month, Brandon Seidler '10, Maggi Eidson '10 and Andrew Kangerga '10 completed a 27-mile hike through the Andes Mountains to Machu Picchu in Peru.  The trio flashed the frog sign while visiting the ancient Incan ruins, located 7,970 feet above sea level.

Get-well-soon gift for Frog pastor

Jon Sherman '92, lead pastor of Trinity Bible Church in Willow Park, Texas, received a pretty amazing get-well-soon gift last week as he is recuperating from open-heart, double-bypass surgery earlier this month.

Pastor Sherm, as he is affectionately known by parishioners in his congregation and by fraternity brothers in Beta Upsilon Chi (Brothers Under Christ), shared the image of the football signed by TCU football coach Gary Patterson on his Facebook page, drawing 130 likes and numerous comments.

He has been pastor at Trinity Bible Church since 1999 and was a founding member of the BYX chapter at TCU in 1989.

Rest up and be up on your feet soon, Sherm!

Tim Halperin '10 and the Leaders

Recording artist Tim Halperin '10 visited the North Texas Leadership Academy in Keller this week to talk about the connection between music and poetry. He also shared about how he's used his talents to help Kidd's Kids, a nonprofit organization that enriches the lives of children with special medical needs.

Halperin,
who once advanced to among the top 12 on the 10th season of "American Idol," performed the first-ever Concert for Kidd's Kids on Thursday at the House of Blues in Dallas. Later, Halperin tweeted that he met his own hero Ben Folds.

At NTLA, the rising star singer helped the school kick off its first Project Based Learning unit, according to Holly Megan Thompson '03, head of school. The school is following a yearlong theme "NTLA Unplugged," in which students will study famous poets, different styles of poetry, including music.

"Tim was great with the students," Thompson said. "He's an inspiration to them as they write the poetry and as they choose what organizations they want to assist with their quarterly service projects this school year."

The students will showcase the final product of their first unit on Aug. 29, when they turn the school into a coffee house for a community reading.

Founded in 2012, NTLA is a pre-kindergarten through 12th grade private school dedicated to serving bright and gifted students. The school's innovative and rigorous curriculum challenges each student individually as they progress.

TCU edge while cycling in the Pacific Northwest

Luis Rodriguez, Jr. '92 recently joined angelMD as Vice President, Physician Investor Relations. The Seattle-based crowdfunding company is launching a medical device and health technology platform that allows doctors and dentists to invest in early stage companies. He is excited to draw upon his 15-plus years of working in health care to develop this new innovative space.

Rodriguez also was very excited to report that during his visit to the company, he completed the 204-mile Group Health Annual Seattle to Portland Bicycle Event, finishing in a single day. He credits training in the Texas heat, a la, Coach Gary Patterson style, which gave him an edge over competitors used to the less-harsh climate of the Pacific Northwest. Rodriguez  added that he finished ahead of some University of Texas jerseys in the process.

Nice.
