Two Frogs serving in Afghanistan, flying TCU flag

Lt. Col. Laura (Carmichael) Bozeman '92 is a frequent contributor to Comrades True from Kabul, where she is deployed with the NATO Training Mission Afghanistan as a mentor for the Afghan National Army's General Staff Inspector General.

Here's a quick update: "I ran into Lt. Col. Allen McCormick '86 yesterday. (Both are pictured above.) He is stationed here as an advisor to personnel from the Afghan National Army, too. My TCU banner still flies proudly.  I'll take it back home with me in a couple of months when I redeploy. Go Frogs!"

Accidental Horned Frog meetings in Swaziland

Courtney Loechl '08 manages a backpackers hostel in Swaziland, which borders South Africa. One day earlier this spring, she walked into the kitchen and was surprised to find a girl in a TCU t-shirt.

Writes Courtney, "I asked if she went to TCU, and she said, 'Yes, do you know it?' I quickly replied, 'Know it? I went there too!' Which is how I met Lyndi Conrad Liersemann '03 (photo below with Courtney) in Africa, who was traveling with her husband Aaron. Of course we had to take a horned frog picture!"

But the TCU encounters don't end there.

A few months later, Josh Cauthen '07 (photo above with Courtney) stayed at the hostel while completing an internship for the City of Mbabane, a Fort Worth sister city. "It was wonderful to share old memories with fellow horned frogs," says Courtney, "while discovering a beautiful new country and culture"

Rays of Hope

The Moslah Shrine Center held its annual Rays of Hope Gala at the Historic Hilton Hotel in Fort Worth on April 21. Three TCU alumni, Harold Benefield '67, Robert Lee '70, and Michael Wallach '75 are members of the governing board of Moslah Shrine Center and Robert Lee was the event chairman.

The Master of Ceremonies was former NBC5 news anchor Mike Snider and one of our special guest presenters at the live auction was TCU's own Super Frog.

The proceeds from the Rays of Hope Gala benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children, which consists of 22 pediatric specialty hospitals across North America (including Houston and Galveston). Shriners Hospitals provide state of the art orthopedic, spine injury and burn care for children without regard for the patient's  ability to pay.

FW Fire Station 21 supporting the Frogs

Fort Worth Fire Department Station 21 at Trail Lake Drive has this nifty TCU logo (with approval from TCU Athletics) on Engine 21 and Quint 21. The engines have been striped to replace the existing blue.

Horned Frogs and bluebonnets

Charlie Parham '04 wrote us last week to share this image of his 1-year-old son Collin. Charlie and wife Alissa McKinney Parham '05 snapped this photo near their home in Keller on the day they selected their seats for the 2012 football season at Amon G. Carter Stadium.

"The combination of seat picking day, Texas bluebonnets and the No. 14 jersey had to be shared with you guys," Charlie wrote. "I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!"

Charlie works at Pepco Sales and Marketing, and Alissa works for Rising Star Ranch.
