Reporting to TCU in August

Lisa Sutton White '88 wrote to tell us about her family of Horned Frogs, including daughter Lindsey, who will become a member of the Class of 2017 in August. She was awarded a four-year Army ROTC scholarship from three schools and "couldn't imagine not being a Horned Frog," her mother wrote. "Now we have another reason to come see our Horned Frogs Play Football!"

Pictured above, Lindsey (wearing a TCU T-shirt) and her parents met up with her uncle and aunt, Kevin '92 and Melissa Bryant White '93 in Old Kyoto, Japan, earlier this spring. Lindsey's father Greg '88 retired from the Army after 21 years of service and is now working in financial management at Special Operations at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.

"Hi, TCU!" From England

Corrinne “Rene” M. Powell ‘63 mailed a letter to us from Cheltenham, United Kingdom, with a photo of her friend's new car and license plate. This is not a vanity plate, just an amazingly random string of letters. Well, not random to us, or Powell.

She writes:

"I remember, some time ago, a feature on TCU-related license plates. I thought that the story of this one might amuse you.

"I got my degree from TCU on 29 May 1963. I married an Englishman in 1966 and moved to England in 1969.

"We live in a 17th century cottage in a small village (population nearly 300!) in the Cotswolds.

"Imagine my surprise when a neighbor brought her new car to show me. When I saw the license plate, I fell about laughing and went for my camera.

"We both have husbands whose hobby is vintage cars – 1930-ish. People often take pictures of those cars when we are “out and about.” She was completely puzzled as to why I would want a picture of a modern car license plate.

"Obviously, she had never heard of TCU. Oxford and Cambridge, yes, but TCU? No. . .

"So, here’s to you, TCU. Hi!!! From England!"

Frogs in Legoland

Eddie Pena '93 of Littleton, Colo., and his two future Horned Frogs Carlos and Gabriella enjoyed LEGOLAND Florida in April during spring break. "We wanted to do something fun for the roller coaster camera, and the kids suggested we make the Horned Frog sign," he wrote. "They are definitely Future Frogs."

Pena is a principal consultant for Arrow Partnership, a management consulting firm.

Horned Frog cheers in Clemson country

Arlen Clarke '83 MM shared this video of the youth choir of St. Mary's Church in Greenville, S.C., where he is the choirmaster. "Folks here are all either University of South Carolina (Gamecocks) or Clemson Tiger fans," he wrote us. "I plug the Frogs every chance I get. I think the kiddos here beginning to like TCU and the idea of an underdog."

After practice one day, he got them together for a TCU moment.

It might have something to do with the fact that the Frogs beat Clemson at famed Death Valley in 2009. He and son Christian '07, a football lettermen, watched that rain-soaked win for TCU on the 50-yard-line on the Clemson side. "It was a sweet victory," he wrote.
