Remembering Van Cliburn

Craig Libby '65, of Sedona, Ariz., shared this photo of him and piano legend Van Cliburn this week upon learning of the Fort Worth icon's death this week.

"As a sophomore Radio-TV-Film major in 1962, I had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Cliburn on the campus radio station KTCU," Libby wrote.

During breaks in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition held in Ed Landreth Auditorium, Cliburn would steal away from the crowds and make frequent visits to the KTCU studios, then located in the basement of Ed Landreth Hall.

"His visits, although short in duration, were always interesting, welcomed and enjoyed by the small group of students running the station," Libby shared. "It was a honor and privilege to have met this outstanding and talented man during my early years at TCU and to this day enjoying the music he has left the world."
